EMPOWERING YOUNG GIRLS & WOMEN
Initiated by the Business Women’s Association Cape Town, Sanitary Sistas teaches young women and girls about the menstrual cycle and feminine hygiene, something that’s sorely lacking in South Africa and a cause that DAN SSA has passionately championed.
In 2012 DAN SSA’s CEO Dawn Rowlands was awarded Business Woman of the year by the Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa. Through this award and a partnership with the association, we were exposed to the plight of the many women and girls in our society who can’t afford the resources to manage their menstrual cycle. This is when we were introduced to Sanitary Sistas project who teach and equip girls with the tools to restore their dignity.
Since then we have been a long-term partner and venture out to schools across South Africa with the Sani Sistas to hand out sanitary packs and establish a discourse with the girls that destroys stigma and restores their dignity. It’s a cause that’s close to our hearts and one that we will continue to champion as long as we can.
